PROJECT OVERVIEW
Phoenix Project #1806
In 2018, Phoenix was called upon by Northern Construction Service, LLC to stop a number of leaks in a private dam which had become a growing concern for people in the neighboring communities. The project was time-sensitive, requiring Phoenix to develop a plan of attack, procure materials, and mobilize equipment and labor in less than a week. And that’s exactly what we did.
The work scope was made particularly difficult due to limited access behind and atop the dam structure, as well as limited downstream access to the dam’s granite block face. To further complicate matters, the dam was holding back at least 10 feet of water, so repairs could not be performed “in the dry”.
Inspired by grouting technologies and methods developed and perfected over a career, Phoenix’ management and field personnel were able to develop and execute a scope of work that sealed off all critical leaks in a matter of days. Before demobilizing, a client representative remarked “I can’t believe you stopped all those leaks!”
Excerpting an article from the Hampshire Gazette a week after Phoenix’ work was completed, “Repairs to the Upper Bondsville Dam, which suffered from decades of poor maintenance, are nearly complete and have remained under budget… In July, Belchertown Land Trust executed a contract with Northern Construction Service, LLC, a Palmer-based company. Daniel Beaudette said that he “can’t be happier with the contractor… I think the people that live on this river and use it are going to be happy too”.
