PROJECT OVERVIEW
Phoenix Project #2303
Hood Park is a development situated on the former site of the Hood milk company in beautiful Charlestown, MA. The site is now a 20-acre mixed use urban campus appealing to the needs of Boston’s residents and workers. Our scope on this project was relatively small, but important to the owner. A demising wall needed deep foundations to support the grade beam on which it would be built, and Phoenix was expertly equipped to provide 13 helical piles inside the building. These piles have a capacity of 10 tons each.
“What is a demising wall?” you may ask. Well, it’s essentially a dividing wall to separate one large space into smaller units. This one was designed to utilize concrete bricks (aka “CMU”) which imposed a heavy load on the soils. The geology of the site didn’t allow for a conventional footing to be installed, thus the need for deep foundations. Since the proposed work was located within close proximity of many existing spread footings those deep foundations needed to be installed with low-impact, tight access equipment. Phoenix mobilized and was able to quickly, efficiently, and safely install these helical piles so that the rest of the work on the interior was able to progress as planned.
