PROJECT OVERVIEW
Phoenix Project #1904
Also known as the “K Street Substation”, Substation 385 is projected to have numerous upgrades in the coming years which include a 100ft lightning mast, security fencing, and numerous foundations for new equipment. Its proximity to the South Boston Reserved Channel with tidal ground water influences make deep foundations ideal for these conditions.
In this phase of the project, Phoenix installed 17 helical piles to depths of 30 to 45 feet to support a new duct bank. Due to uncertainty with underground utilities, pre-excavation was performed by vac-truck at each pile location to remove obstructions and prevent utility strike. Phoenix completed the installation in 3 days.
