PROJECT OVERVIEW
Phoenix Project #2123
For this project, 48 drilled micropiles (“DMPs”) were installed to support new foundation elements at the Wakefield Public Safety Building project in Wakefield, MA.
Phoenix worked right outside of the existing public safety building for the duration of our work. The team had to use caution during construction to not cause any damage to the building, equipment, or passers-by.
The micropiles had a prescribed design load of 20 tons in compression. All piles were permanently cased through all overburden soils and embedded one foot into the glacial till layer. Thereafter, each pile was socketed uncased 12 feet into the dense glacial till. After each hole was advanced to the required tip elevation and prior to materials placement, the drill hole was flushed clean with water to remove excess cuttings. Grout was then placed via tremie, and the core steel reinforcement was carefully lowered into place. Each central reinforcing bar extended upward beyond pile cutoff elevation and terminated 24 inches into the new pile caps.
Phoenix was able to install all piles successfully and safely while working in close proximity to the existing public safety building.
