PROJECT OVERVIEW
Phoenix Project #2020
This project called for the installation of four new permanent tieback anchors to support an existing bulkhead being repaired at the Sikorsky Cedar Creek site in Bridgeport CT.
Prior to Phoenix’s mobilization, a fair amount of preparation had to be performed in advance of the work. A detailed work plan was carefully developed and coordinated with our Client, included the hoisting of our drill rig, tooling, and other equipment onto a spudded work barge. Once positioned on the barge and ready to begin anchor installations, six foot tide swings required us to adjust the distance the barge needed to sit off the wall to achieve proper drilling angle and location. Phoenix selected the Casagrande C6 drill rig to install these anchors, as it provided the most flexibility with hydraulic pistons in the mast allowing us to constantly adjust its positioning with the rising/falling tides.
The site geology consisted of granular fill underlain by brown sands, which allowed for installation using wet rotary drilling techniques. Extreme care was taken as the anchors were installed to ensure all drill spoils were adequately contained. Upon completion of installation and grout curing to design strength, the anchors were tested and locked off. All anchors successfully passed the project acceptance criteria, and were then capped and incorporated into the finished structure.
