PROJECT OVERVIEW
Phoenix Project #2104
Phoenix’s work on this project consisted of 78 drilled micropiles (“DMPs”) and one pre-production verification pile load test performed on a sacrificial pile. Phoenix also provided soil borings as required by project specification in order to supplement geotechnical information and finalize pile design.
Pile installations on this project were challenging to say the least, as site constraints were a logistical nightmare. Piles installed on the front exterior of the theater were done so in an extremely narrow, 11 foot wide work zone. Due to the tight work area, maneuvering and staging of equipment and materials required constant planning so as to not slow down the drilling operation.
Not to be outdone, 40 pile installations within the interior of the existing building, combining the challenges of tight work areas with the added challenge of having less than 10 feet of headroom to work in. Existing columns and narrow rooms provided difficult access to some pile locations, making setup and installation a cumbersome task.
Thanks to the forward-thinking and preparation of the crew on site, all interior and exterior piles were seamlessly and successfully installed.
