Geothermal Borehole Drilling
Phoenix Foundation Company provides drilling and installation services for vertical and inclined geothermal boreholes and complete borefields for ground source heat exchange systems for heating and cooling. Our installations routinely range from 150 to 850 feet in depth, with borefields consisting of dozens to several hundred boreholes.
We bring the same focus on safety, quality, and precision that defines our geostructural, specialty foundation systems and ground improvement work to every geothermal project — from preconstruction planning through installation and performance verification. Each geothermal borehole is pressure tested before and after installation and monitored throughout grouting to confirm full and uniform fill. Thermal conductivity tests are available to ensure compliance with design parameters.
Phoenix is equipped to drill through overburden soils and bedrock using duplex casing. Boreholes are advanced with water or air flushing to remove cuttings and ensure clean installations. Permanent or temporary steel casing is installed through the overburden as required and joined with threaded or welded joints to withstand drilling forces.
In addition to drilling, Phoenix provides options to furnish and install lateral borefield circuits and header pipes. We perform flushing and purging operations in coordination with the mechanical contractor. All lateral piping, vaults, and system connections are executed with the same attention to workmanship and performance verification as the borehole installations.
Phoenix has State Certified Well/Borehole Drillers, National Groundwater Association (NGWA) Accredited Drillers, International Ground Source Heat Pump Association (IGSHPA) Accredited Installers, and McElroy Certified fusing Installers on staff for every project.
